Burnham Calls for Honest EU Freedom Movement Debate
💡 Why it matters
A shift toward EU free movement would transform UK immigration policy and its relationship with Brussels, but risks provoking intense backlash among Leave voters and Conservative opponents.
Prime Minister Andy Burnham has called for an "honest discussion" with the British public about possibly restoring free movement between the UK and EU ahead of a November summit. He also indicated a new deal could mean the UK "all the way" rejoins the bloc.
