London Film Festival Exposes Gender Gala Gap: The BFI London Film
💡 Why it matters
This gala disparity directly limits women's access to the high-visibility premieres that secure distribution deals and award-season momentum.
The BFI London Film Festival programme features 43% female-directed films, but only 2 of 21 gala slots are helmed by women. Director Kristy Matheson noted that the industry dial is not moving for female filmmakers beyond debut features.
